Get your Foreign Medical Program benefits letter online
If you’re a Veteran living or traveling abroad, getting care for your service-connected conditions is easier through VA’s Foreign Medical Program (FMP).
FMP helps cover medically necessary care outside the United States for service-connected conditions, including:
- Office visits
- Hospital care
- Emergency or urgent care
- Physical therapy
- Prescribed medical equipment and supplies
- Skilled nursing care
- Approved prescription medicines
Following a recent program update, Veterans eligible for FMP no longer need to register before accessing their benefits. You can simply download your FMP benefits letter directly from VA.gov. Just like other VA benefits and disability letters, your FMP letter is available when you need it, without an extra phone call, form or wait for mailed paperwork.
Having your letter readily available streamlines your care experience while abroad. The letter shows overseas health care providers that you’re eligible for FMP and details which service-connected conditions are covered.
To get your FMP benefits letter, sign in to your account on VA.gov, click your name in the top-right corner of the page, and select “Letters.” From there, you can view, download or print your letter whenever you need it.
